Classification
Guided HS code finder
Describe the product. LandedGrid proposes headings from the official tariff, then walks you down the tariff’s own branches — each question is a real legal distinction, not a guess.
How classification works
The Harmonized System assigns every traded product a 6-digit code shared by more than 200 countries. Each country extends it — to 10 digits in the United States, United Kingdom and European Union, 8 in Australia, 9 in Japan — and attaches its duty rates to those national codes. Classification follows the General Rules of Interpretation, section and chapter notes, and the legal text of each heading; commercial names are irrelevant.
What the result statuses mean
- Confirmed by inputs — every branch was chosen by matching your product to the legal text. It is still not a ruling.
- Likely — you chose a residual “Other” branch. Re-check that none of the named alternatives fits.
- Ruling recommended — sets, parts and composite goods are where interpretative rules most often change the answer.
For high-value or repeat imports, a binding ruling (US: CBP ruling; UK/EU: Binding Tariff Information; Australia: Tariff Advice) removes the risk. Read the guide to HS codes.
